This was our second visit after a really good experience a few years ago. Unfortunately, we were disappointed this time. The service was not very good, and the food was very over-priced for what we received. We had to wait for at least 10 minutes at reception for even a basic greeting, even though our reserved table was free (we could see it). Our drink order was taken after another 10 minutes, but no-one took our food order for at least half an hour after that. The food did arrive promptly, but there really wasn't much care or attention from the wait staff - except when it was time to leave a tip, then three of them hovered to the point of discomfort (even staring at the EFTPOS while I typed in my pin and kept showing me where to leave a tip three times). We felt like the focus was on billing and not food service. The food was decent, but not exceptional, and overpriced when compared to other fine dining we've recently had in the area (such as Fins). The oysters ($6 each) were very miniscule, and the tomato tart was really just pastry and a bit of tomato. To be fair, the beef was great, but tiny - everything was an entree serve for a higher end main price. Unfortunately, I don't think we would go again and we wanted to like it as we are local.
Having travelled a lot and also being avid home cooks, my partner and I struggle to feel a wow factor when we dine out these days. Pipit absolutely blew me away - incredible menu with stunning use of ingredients being local, seasonal, and top to tail. And we left feeling extremely full with the very generous portions and variety of dishes. Ben is a phenomenal chef and you sense he could be working anywhere in the world and the fact that he chooses to make Pottsville his home and business location just makes us feel so lucky! I cannot recommend Pipit more highly.
Pipit is, without question, one of the best dining experiences weโve ever had. The food was exceptional and the quality of the produce was outstanding - every dish felt thoughtful, seasonal, and deeply connected to its ingredients. What made the evening even more special was the level of care and generosity shown by the team. They opened the restaurant just for us, as we were the only booking, and the experience felt incredibly personal and thoughtful without ever feeling forced. Benโs passion for local produce truly shines through in the food. He is an extraordinary chef who could work anywhere in the world, yet chose to come back to Pottsville and create something genuinely special. That choice is felt in every detail. Weโve been lucky enough to dine at many great places around the world, and Pipit sits right at the top. We had the best time and will be talking about this night for a long time to come.
Living in Byron, we were lucky enough to experience Pippit at their recent pop-up at The Brooklet. Ben is an incredible chef โ the food was truly a culinary journey weโll never forget. Chloe was an amazing server, guiding us through all the paired wines with such personality and knowledge. A big shoutout as well to Yen, whose clear and thoughtful communication made booking a breeze and really stood out. We canโt wait to visit the restaurant itself. highly recommend!
What a decadent way to spend a Thursday evening on the northern rivers on a mini break. With fresh surprising local flavours, this feast of bite sized elements touched upon every sense and tickle each tastebud completely, taking me back to growing up in this region with all the flavours. With a menu that is constantly evolving and staff with heart, that no matter the day I am sure whatever is on the menu will be sure to delight and create a magic moment with whomever you share it with. Canโt wait to come back again.
