Hands down the single best dining experience in Australia. Food is not just outstanding, it is more than extraordinary, itโs the magnum opus of fine dining in all Oceania. With a major theme of fermentation, canapes, entrees, mains and drinks all have a fermented element to it that not just adds some tang, it adds another layer, a second body for your taste buds to latch on to. Mind boggling flavors and amazing service, thank you chef Daniel, chef Tony and the entire team over at Sixpenny for cultivating such an experience.
Sixpenny has been on my must-try list for years, and my friends finally chose it for my birthday, perfectly timed with them retaining their 3-hat status. From the moment we stepped in, it was clear why they continue to sit at the top of Sydney dining. The entire experience was flawless. Every dish was beautifully composed, almost architectural in presentation - genuinely sexy plates with flavours that were so precise, balanced and quietly confident. Nothing screamed for attention, yet everything left an impression. Itโs the kind of cooking that feels effortless, even though you know it takes immense skill to pull off. What really made the night unforgettable was the service. The team somehow managed to be polished, warm and deeply personal all at once - greeting us by name, remembering little details, and creating an atmosphere where you feel like a valued guest, not just another booking. The handwritten birthday card at the end was such a thoughtful touch and genuinely made me smile. Sixpenny didnโt just meet expectations - it surpassed them in every way. A truly exceptional dining experience and one Iโm already thinking about long after the final bite.
Located in Stanmore in a cute house. Sixpenny received 3 hats in 2025 and I understand why. Food was amazing and service was impeccable. We have been coming to sixpenny over the last 12 years and it never disappoints. The flavours are on pointe. Wines were matched perfectly and Vincent the sommelier was very knowledgeable. Thank you Ruby for looking after us. They even give you a card to celebrate your special occasion so that was a nice touch.
One of the best dining experiences Iโve had in Sydney. If youโre celebrating a special occasion, this is the place to go. The staff were attentive and the chefs came out to explain each dish, which felt like something out of a movie. The food was beautifully presented, full of flavor, and crafted with care. Highly recommend for a truly unforgettable night.
I spent some time deciding whether to give 5 stars, and in the end, I believe this restaurant deserves it. First, the service is excellentโtruly top-level. The staff were attentive, professional, and very accommodating of my dietary restrictions due to allergies. They even offered thoughtful replacements, which I greatly appreciated. Second, the food itself was very good, though I did find the portions on the smaller side. I probably could have enjoyed one more course to feel fully satisfied. Third, regarding beverages, there is room for improvement. The original sake I received had been opened for over a week and had developed a sour, off flavor. Once I mentioned it, the staff promptly replaced it with a freshly opened bottle, which was much better. Lastly, the wine pairing could have been stronger. ๐ท It only began with the second course, and the dessert pairing felt a bit heavy with two intense pours (a bitter and a tawny). It might flow better if the pairing started from the first course, and perhaps just one thoughtful pour carried through both dessertsโmaybe even swapping in tea for balance. Overall, the combination of outstanding service and quality food makes this restaurant worth a visit, and with a little fine-tuning on the beverage program, it could be even more exceptional.
